2023 Silver State Concours d’Elegance (July 9th)

Concours events began with a Meet & Greet on Saturday, July 8, under the cottonwood trees on the patio of the Carson Valley Country Club Club, in Gardnerville, Nevada. The Meet & Greet featured bottomless appetizers (no need for dinner afterward), a generous no-host bar, and a Tech Quiz designed to test the Porsche knowledge of all who competed.

The 2023 Edition of the Silver State Concours d’Elegance, hosted jointly by PCA Zone 7 and the Sierra Nevada Region (SNR), was held at the Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa, Nevada on Sunday, July 9. This venue was perhaps the best yet for this annual event. Everyone enjoyed the pastoral setting, seeing our Porsches nestled in lush grass under the canopy of 170-year-old trees. The shade offered by the trees was greatly appreciated in the near 100-degree temperature of the day. Many remarked that they would like to repeat this venue going forward.

The donuts & coffee provided by the Sierra Nevada Region got everyone going early as they hastened to prepare their Porsches for the judging that began mid-morning. Once the judging was completed, it was time for a buffet lunch under the park pavilion, followed by a highly vocal visit from Snowshoe Thompson (so taken by our Porsches he came back from the grave), the awards presentation and the charity raffle, in that order.

The winners in the several categories judged are pictured below in roughly the order their trophies were awarded by current SNR president, Beverly Babcock. Unfortunately, a couple of the images were too fuzzy to include … sorry. There were two perfect scores from concours regulars Thorsten and Simone Kopitzki and Jim and Linda McMahan, who traveled over a hundred miles to compete.

Here below are more images of the Porsches staged in the Judged and Display Only areas. Almost every Porsche sports car model from 356A to 992 was represented, along with a handful of Cayennes and Macans. No Porsche Diesel Tractor, though … maybe next year?

Kudos to our Concours Committee for their efforts in pulling this event together. Dan Aynesworth, Debby Hertel and Millie Smith were responsible for overall planning and organizing. John Zeising handled registration. Other Sierra Nevada Region members (to numerous to name) pitched in to stage the cars, judge the award categories, setup the coffee & donuts and the lunch, etc. Great job guys and gals! We also want to thank Porsche of Reno for paying for the trophies; they do this every year and it’s much appreciated. We also want to thank the Zone 7 Concours Co-Chairs Roy Schauben and Simone Kopitzki for their support in judging. We also want to recognize Thorsten Kapitzki as the winner of Saturday’s Tech Quiz and Ragnar Kuehnert (with help from Steve Kent and Craig Kugler) for authoring the quiz.
