Oktoberfest Drive & Dine

What is the perfect recipe for a great outing? How about a dozen Porsches, perfect weather, autumn colors, twisty roads, Bavarian food and a few bottles of beer? Not enough?

Well, add to the list the welcoming hospitality of Angela and Kirk Fassbender, the proprietors of the Pfeifer House who rolled out the red carpet for the club.

The evening started at the foot of Mt. Rose Highway as members gathered for the final driving tour of the season. With temperatures in the 80s, the group headed up to Lake Tahoe past golden trees and a patch or two of snow. Once at the lake, the caravan headed toward Tahoe City.

The Pfeifer House restaurant is located just west of the “Y” and as we entered the parking lot, we were met by the owners’ son who directed us into a private parking area. A few steps later it felt like you had traveled to Bavaria once you entered the restaurant. Authentic décor, appropriate music, and, of course, a wide selection of German beer.

Not surprisingly, members enjoyed mingling at the bar, but also took advantage of the main dining room dedicated exclusively to our group to catch up with each other and occasionally talk about their favorite mark.

Dinner consisted of the classic Bavarian favorites: Cordon Bleu Schnitzel,

Pork Tenderloin, and Medallion of Beef. I will give a special shout out to the Potato Leek Soup, which was excellent along with the Apple Strudel (a lifelong weakness of mine). Did I already mention the beer?

By the time dessert arrived, many of the 24-plus members in attendance took the opportunity to move to other tables to engage in more conversation. I take this as a good sign everyone was having a good time.
