Holiday Party Filled with Cheer and Song

Like an exclamation point at the end of a sentence, the Holiday Party marks the end of the year on our event calendar.  In many ways the Party is a reflection of the past year: there was a new twist, great turnout, good cheer, abundant enthusiasm and ample generosity.

For the second year in a row, 50 club members gathered at the Lakeridge Tennis Club Center Court Grill to celebrate the holidays.  In a moment of brilliance, our leader Steve Kent arranged for a troop of Christmas Carolers dressed in Charles Dickens Victorian costume to serenade the guests. They performed for an hour while members engaged in conversation and enjoying a variety of appetizers.

Attention soon turned to the buffet which featured a variety of salads and main choices. Members gathered at tables of eight where the conversation continued.  More than a few guests were spotted heading back for seconds.

Each year a raffle is held and the funds raised are donated to charity. This year the club is continuing it’s commitment to AMBUCS, an organization dedicated to providing mobility and independence via tricycles for people with disabilities. Special thanks to all those who contributed items to the raffle:  Craig & MaryLou Kugler, Carl & Kim Staub, Barry & Linda Rosenthal and Steve & Mayla Kent.  The raffle raised $360.

Steve Kent closed out the evening by recognizing the efforts of several club members. Steve recognized the following Board members with a bottle of champagne: Dan Aynesworth, Deven Hickingbotham, Craig Kugler and Karen O’Leary.

Award trophies were also awarded: Renee & Deven Hickingbotham — Volunteers of the Year; Debbie & John Hertel – Members of the Year; Jim Hemig – Hardest Working Volunteer; MaryLou Kugler – Friendliest Volunteer; Merlin Simons – Board Member Emeritus; and Alice & John Strom – Most Experienced Volunteer Club Couple.  A big Thank You to all!
