Thirty-eight club members (twenty-six Porsches) took part in the Sierra Nevada Region’s first driving tour of 2025, our annual Dustoff Tour. The Dustoff occurred two weeks later than originally scheduled this year due to an uncooperative snowstorm (it didn’t get the memo). We met in South Reno at Wedge Parkway on Mount Rose Hwy, where this year’s tour organizer Doug Driver (our long-serving club secretary) divided us into two groups with David Adams leading the first group and Ozzie Smith (a surprise to him) leading the second group, and Doug as sweep for the second group. The two groups launched 10 minutes apart and setoff West on Mt Rose Hwy, up over Mount Rose toward Hwy 28, three traffic circles, and Kings Beach. It was slow going at first with the weekend traffic until we made the turn North onto Hwy 267 from Kings Beach. The pace then picked up a little on Hwy 267 as we passed by Northstar and Truckee, passed under Hwy 80, and merged onto Hwy 89. Once past the two traffic circles on 89, traffic really thinned out and our Porsches were able to stretch their legs a little more as we headed to our comfort stop in Sierraville. Arriving in Sierraville, the second group chatted up the first group briefly before the first group was off West on Hwy 49/89, with the second group following 10 minutes later.

Passing through Sattley, we left 49, taking the right fork at the 49/89 split onto 89 (nobody missed it this year) and enjoyed more curves and less traffic as we headed toward Whitehawk and A15. There we left 89 and followed the curves of the narrow and entertaining A15 into and through Portola and onto Hwy 70 East toward Hallelujah Junction The second group made an unscheduled stop at Hallelujah Junction to clean enough bugs off their front windows to see the road ahead, before swinging North on 395 for a few miles and making the turn onto Red Rock Road. We then followed Red Rock Road to its southern terminus at Hwy 395. Then it was South on 395 into Reno and the end of the tour at our planned lunch stop, Prost Reno Biergarten. When the second group arrived at Prost the first group was nowhere in sight, and we soon found out why … the manager informed us they were unable to serve such a large group. A few ate at the Pizza place next door, while most of the second group just went home. It was disappointing to end such a fun tour this way, we’ll do a better job planning the Dustoff lunch next year.
