The big news in 2018 is the calendar – both in terms of what is on the calendar and the calendar itself.
Let me explain the easy part first. This year’s calendar is choc full of events. Back by popular demand are all the club’s favorites: Cioppino Feed, St. Patrick’s Day, the Summer Wine Socials, Mammoth High Alpine Tour, Reno Aces game, Concour, Fall Wine Tour, Oktoberfest, Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, Holiday Party and much more.
New events include a tour of the Tahoe Maritime’s Carson City warehouse, a possible Gigafactory tour, and a Halloween inspired driving event in late October.
By no means have I mentioned every event – there simply are so many! Please go to snv.pca.org/calendar/ to view the full calendar.
Last year we were a bit light on technical events, so this year we are introducing Flash Tech Session. These events will be hosted by club members interested in sharing and/or demonstrating some technical expertise. Typically they will be announced via email and on the club’s website 4-7 days before the event. Why such short notice? Mainly for the convenience of the host. They might not know in advance when they are going to tackle a brake replacement, but when they do, we want to encourage them to host a FTS. The first FTS about headlight restoration was held on January 13 and the next one scheduled is on January 23 focusing on paint correction.
In the spirit of the Flash Technical Session we are going to encourage Flash Drive Tours. The thinking here is that these will primarily winter tours that are only scheduled when the weekend weather forecast is favorable. Let’s hope for a sunny weekend and see if something comes together!
Now about the calendar itself. The club recently switched to a new website that includes a fully featured calendar application that allows for online registration and (when necessary) payment for events. This will dramatically simplify event hosting as much of the administration has been automated. Be sure to go online and check it out.
Speaking of hosting, the club is always looking for new hosts and event ideas. A great way to get started is to co-host an event with an experienced host.
To host a Flash event, become a new host, submit a new event, make a correction to the calendar, etc., please contact Deven Hickingbotham at activities@snv.pca.org.
