Fifty club members gathered at the Bearmat Group picnic area in Galena Creek Regional Park on Saturday June 13, to celebrate the club’s 55th birthday. Yes, it’s true, the Sierra Nevada Region officially became a senior citizen in June, having obtained its PCA charter in June, 1965. This was our first social event of the year, and the first time that this many club members had gotten together after the Planning Meeting Breakfast on January 4.
The day began on the chilly side (42°) while we were setting up but warmed up considerably by noon. John and Debby Hertel led us on a 30-45 minute hike to help us warm up, work up an appetite and get a better look at the beautiful surroundings of this park.
With only enough picnic table locations to provide social distancing for 36, several club members brought blankets and folding chairs so that they were able to sit close by.
We want to thank Debby Hertel, our Social Chairman, for suggesting and reserving the picnic area and for providing flowers and coverings for the tables. We also want to thank PCA National for providing the banners and the stand they sent bearing the Sierra Nevada Region logo, to help us celebrate this milestone.
