Show & Shine Picnic (August 2)

When COVID-19 restrictions made it impractical to hold the Sierra Nevada Region’s annual Concours d’ Elegance, usually scheduled for the last Sunday in July,  we replaced it with a Show & Shine Picnic on August 2nd . Our current past president Steve Kent had worked for months to reserve a date for our 2020 Concours at the Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno after, unexpectedly, the park administration informed the club that the entire park was reserved for the Chinese Lantern Festival through the summer of 2020.  Then when the pandemic hit the Chinese Lantern Festival was cancelled and, later, the Washoe County Parks administration decided to limit the size of each park reservation to 25 people, which was half the limit the Nevada governor had set on gathering size. This limitation made it impractical to hold our Concours and with it our pre-Concours Meet & Greet.

In spite of these obstacles we had a good turnout for the Show & Shine Picnic and a fun time was had by all, with about 20 cars displayed on the lawn at the park. A wide range of Porsche models were present, from a 356A to the latest 911 Speedster and included two GT3 RS models. Our Zone 7 Representative Colin Fat drove his GT3 RS up from Sacramento to present our club president Millie Smith with a plaque commemorating the 55th anniversary of the Sierra Nevada Region. Former SNR President and current PCA National Treasurer Craig Kugler was on hand to participate in the presentation. Colin was overheard to remark that he’d like to drive his GT3 somewhere just one time without being stopped to display its registration to the police.

Kudos to Steve for all his efforts in arranging this event.
