A great time was had by all who attended the Sierra Nevada Region’s annual Oktoberfest party. This year the event was held on October 7 at the Prost Biergarten and the staff could not have been nicer. The beer and the pretzels were wonderful appetizers and the main entrees were delicious. A separate portion of the restaurant was set aside for us and name tags were coordinated with the entrees so the service was seamless. Many of the attendees were decked out in their Bavarian Best. Several of us brought our own beer steins, with Peter Smith bringing the largest (reported to hold 7.5 gallons).
Much to our surprise, we discovered that two of the couples that signed up for this event online were not actually club members. Having had a wonderful time at the Munich Oktoberfest in an earlier year they searched online for an Oktoberfest event in the Reno area, discovered our event and signed up. They did however promise to acquire Porsches and join PCA before our next Oktoberfest.
The highlight of the evening was when Raina Sobiloff initiated the “CHICKEN DANCE”. For those of you that do not know, this dance (also called the “Bird Song” or originally “The Duck Dance” in Switzerland) is a traditional Oktoberfest drinking song with everyone placing their hands under their arms and flapping them like a chicken to the beat of the music while wiggling hips and clapping at the end. Everyone had a great time!!!!!
