Holiday Party 2021, by Kim Zeising & Debby Hertel

For the second year in a row, the Sierra Nevada Region held their annual Holiday Party at the spacious and festive Red Hawk Event Center!  Despite the wintery weather on Thursday, December 16th, nearly 70 club members attended this special end-of-year celebration!  Sadly, we missed Millie and Ozzie Smith this year due to a mishap in Hawaii.  But fortunately, Ozzie is on the mend after taking a fall and breaking his femur.  In Millie’s absence, Beverly Babcock stepped in to welcome all of our guests and relate the sad news of Pete Dickinson’s recent passing. Pete was an amazing member and very active volunteer of our club.  His wife, Carol, also an active member and volunteer, will be held in our thoughts and prayers.

Sandy Provasi and Karen O’Larey captured the evening taking pictures of members enjoying a night of frivolity and fun.  Their efforts are very much appreciated!

During the cocktail hour we all enjoyed listening to acoustic guitar holiday music, sampling a delicious array of warm passed appetizers, and indulging in our favorite adult beverages.  We are particularly grateful to everyone who brought items for our charity raffle.  There were so many awesome baskets that we nearly ran out of table space!  Everyone loved the array of donations this year; in fact, some of the ticket bins were overflowing before the night was over.  Special kudos to Renee Zupon, Alice Strom and Denise Lewis, our ticket sale volunteers, for their persuasion in achieving outstanding ticket sales.

The live music continued in the background throughout the dinner hour as guests took their seats and enjoyed their freshly plated Caesar salad.  Tables were released one by one for guests to proceed through the buffet line.  Our dinner feast featured freshly carved prime rib, pan seared halibut, and plenty of flavorful side dishes.  The tiramisu and coffee service brought a delightfully delicious ending to our holiday meal.

As we put down our forks, Ron Lewis picked up the microphone and provided us with a brief description of our favorite charity, AMBUCS.  Then it was time for the main event, the raffle drawings!   Sandy Provasi and denise Lewis tirelessly assisted in the ticket drawing and delivered baskets with a smile to all of the lucky winners. This year ticket sales totaled $1,350!  The club will add our PCA National charity match and an additional club contribution to bring the total AMBUCS donation to a hefty $3,000.

Once the drawings concluded, the live music transitioned to some crowd favorites, and there was even some spontaneous dancing spotted near the fireplace.  Due to popular demand, next year’s holiday party plan includes installation of a dance floor.  So brush up on your moves and get ready to kick up your heels in 2022!

By 9:00, it was time to pack up our winnings as well as our winter coats and say our farewells to friends, both old and new. Thank you, again, to everyone who so generously donated items for the charity raffle and to those who volunteered their time and talents to make our holiday party so very memorable.  What a festive and joyful celebration to conclude our club events for 2021!  Best wishes to everyone for a healthy and happy new year!
