It’s Father’s Day weekend 2025 and time once again for the annual Mammoth High-Altitude Porsche Tour. This tour is a parade of Porches, from vintage air-cooled to the newest supercars and everything in between (including Cayennes and Macans). This tour was designed for fun and camaraderie. The highlight is a 119-mile, 2.5 hour tour that takes you along the spine of the Eastern Sierra, around the June Lakes, past Mono Lake, and across the high desert. You’ll enjoy a handful of epic S-turns, fast stretches of straight highway, rolling hills, and the infamous whoop-de-dos that will send your belly into your throat at the right speeds.
All PCA Regions are welcome to attend. In past years as many as 100 Porsches have participated, from as far away as Toronto, Ontario. We were able at the last minute to secure special PCA rates at the Outbound Mammoth Hotel be.synxis.com. For more information on Outbound Mammoth, select outboundhotels.com/mammoth/. In addition, we can recommend the Westin-Monache, the Village Lodge, Juniper Springs, the Alpenhof Lodge, among others (no shortage of lodging in Mammoth Lakes). For those of you who have already booked lodging, we apologize for this late announcement of PCA rates at Outbound Mammoth.
There are two organized tour events this year. The first event is the Meet & Greet, 5:30-7:30 PM Friday night, in the Lobby of the Outbound Mammoth Hotel (164 Old Mammoth Road). This event features hors d’œuvres (courtesy of Sierra Nevada Region), a no host (credit card only) wine & beer bar, smooth jazz background music, and a sommelier (to help with wine selections).
The second and main event, the one we all came for, is the 119-mile Saturday morning drive . Sierra Nevada Region volunteers will be on hand in front of Footloose Sports (3643 Main Street) at 7:30 AM Saturday morning to park Porsches, signup participants with the PCA insurance waiver, and handout packets with turn-by-turn driving instructions and maps. The insurance waiver for the Friday drive to Mammoth Lakes from Reno, snv.pca.org/events/drive-to-mammoth-for-the-mammoth-high-altitude-porsche-tour/, includes the Saturday drive. Following the Driver’s Meeting at 9:00 AM, the drive will begin promptly at 9:30 AM. We will run two or more tour groups (depending on the number of Porsches), one group around our route in the clockwise direction and another group in the counterclockwise direction. Returning to Mammoth Lakes at approximately noon, tour participants are free to arrange lunch and dinner on their own. That strange-looking animal outlined in blue to the right is the actual course you will drive, a bigger copy will be available in the handout.
We are still unable to reach a reasonable agreement with the town of Mammoth Lakes to display our Porsches along Canyon Road on Saturday afternoon as we have in the past. We’ll try to bring this popular Tour event back in some future year.
While you are in Mammoth Lakes, we recommend two short scenic drives that you may want to take on Saturday after lunch or Sunday before returning home.
The first drive follows Lake Mary Road to the Lakes Basin, winding past several alpine lakes, including Twin Lakes, Lake Mary, Lake George, Lake Mamie, and Horseshoe Lake. You will have numerous photo opportunities, especially at the bridge overlooking Twin Lakes (shown right) with the Twin Lakes waterfall in the background, so bring your camera or smartphone!
The second drive follows Minaret Road up past the Yodler and the Mammoth Mtn Ski Area Main Lodge to Lookout Point Road where you can park and view the Minarets, Mt Ritter, Mt Banner, and numerous other Sierra Nevada peaks to the West, as well as Crowley Lake and the White Mountains to the East.
Your handout will include maps for both drives.
Please register below if you plan to participate in the Saturday drive; it will help us organize the drive. Also, please indicate your PCA region in the comment section when you register.
Registration opens at noon on April 30 and closes at noon on June 12. Last minute participants will be able to sign up for the drive on Saturday morning, June 14.
