Bring out your Cayenne, Macan, or non-Porsche 4×4 (Jeep or …) and join us on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 for an off-paved-road tour and lunch. We will meet at 8:30 am at the Carson City Fairgrounds/Fuji Park Parking lot behind Bodine’s Casino (across from Costco), on Old Clear Creek Rd, west of U.S. 395 in Carson City.  There will be a drivers meeting at 8:50 am; the tour will start at 9:00 am. Masks and social distancing are required, as usual in these times. Gas is available at Costco, breakfast on your own, available with advance order at Bodine’s.

Our route will take us South on U.S. 395 and left on Johnson Lane, before we stop and reassemble at Johnson Lane OHV staging area at the end of paved road. From there, we’ll follow the Sunrise Pass Road over Sunrise Pass to Smith Valley, then continue on Artesia Road, right on Upper Colony Road, right on Highway 208, right on U.S. 395, then immediate right on Reese Lane in Holbrook Junction to arrive at Iggy and Squiggy’s Junction Bar (for lunch). There, at the bar, you can order an excellent burger, hot dog, tacos (4 beef or chicken or combo, per order), then grab a seat outdoors on the grass under the cottonwoods; for about $15 per person (veggie burger also available). They bring the food to you when ready. Cash only, no credit/debit cards accepted.

This is a scenic Class 3 (out of 10), relatively easy, unpaved road tour from the end of Johnson Lane to Smith Valley, where pavement resumes, easily traversed in any Cayenne, Macan or other high clearance vehicle. Total time from tour start to lunch about three hours. The goal is to give those who haven’t driven their Porsche SUVs off pavement a chance to do so. Tires should be in good condition. Familiarize yourself in advance with your vehicle’s off road features. In Porsches you should plan on using Off Road and Hill Descent modes, though those aren’t strictly necessary. Pace will be slow, mostly around 15mph when off pavement, with spacing to reduce dust exposure. We will stop at road junctions to be sure everyone is aware of the correct route.
