About Us

SNR members on the road

The Sierra Nevada Region of the Porsche Club of America was chartered on June 15, 1965. That means we’ve been around for quite a while and this year we are celebrating our 57th anniversary.

Our region is primarily in Nevada but also encompasses counties or parts of counties in California on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Our Nevada counties are: Carson, Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Eureka, Humbolt, Lander, Lyon, Mineral, Ormsby, Pershing, Storey, Washoe and White Pine. Nevada only has 17 counties and our region represents 14 of those. That’s the whole top half of the state, from Utah to California, from the Oregon and Idaho borders to as far south as Ely, in White Pine country, in the east and Hawthorne, in Mineral country, in the west.

In California we are the region of choice for all of Alpine country and those parts of the following counties on the eastern slope of the Sierras: El Dorado, Nevada, Placer and Plumas. Our regional boundary runs right along the Sierra ridge.

We are a part of Zone 7 that comprises most of northern Nevada and all of northern California. There are ten regions in the zone. There are 140 regions in the 14 zones across the United State (includes the Hawaiian Islands) and Canada. The total number in the U.S. is 57,000 or more. SNR has about 300 members.

It’s no surprise that 52% of our members live in Reno with another 6% from Sparks. From here it is pretty evenly split at 14% each between those that live around the Lake (Incline Village, Tahoe City, South Lake Tahoe et al) and those that live in Carson City/Carson Valley (Gardnerville, Minden and Genoa). We have a few members clustered around Markleeville, Quincy, Verdi, Yerington and Washoe Valley.

Some of our “Lonesome Riders” hang out in Battle Mountain, Bishop, Blairsden-Graeagle, Clio, Dayton, Elko, Fallon, Fernley, Graeagle, Lovelock, Portola, Silver Springs, Sun Valley, Wellington and Winnemucca.

When you join PCA, you join the national organization and our region is part of that organization. When you move to another area you can transfer your membership to your new region. So, when we talk about the oldest members in our region, they may not have actually joined our region in that particular year.

The member of our region who has belonged to PCA the longest is William Ripley of Reno, who joined PCA in 1966. Next longest members of PCA are two who joined in 1971, Paul Christensen of Sparks and David Morse of Reno.
